Adventures in Amigurumi

The craze has finally come to Tabi's Creating Adventures!!  My first Amigurumi is a little lion!  Based on the first picture, I think our kitty does not like the Amigurumi kitty.  But that's okay, because she doesn't have to, I like it enough for both of us!  Needless to say I don't have to worry about the little lion becoming Skipper's play toy.

Have a great day!

Blessings and Peace!

Adventures in Charity Pieces

I don't know about you, but I personally want to help as many people as I can.  Since I have been given quite a bit of yarn over the years I have come up with the idea to use some of that yarn for what I like to call "charity pieces."  Basically, I work up a product from yarn which has been donated and sell it for what I normally would sell it, but instead of putting the approximate material costs back into the business, I take that extra little bit and donate it to a local charity-type cause.   Partially it depends on where the sale is made as to which charity-type cause I donate to.  If I am in the Everett area in Washington, then I would donate to the Evergreen Home for Teen Mothers, but if I'm in the Bremerton area in Washington then I'll donate to Coffee Oasis which helps to minister to homeless teens.  You get the idea.

This hat here is my first charity piece.  Many plans are in the works for other charity piece hats, scarves, fingerless mitts, bags and purses, and other items.  I look forward to telling more people about this soon!  Don't forget to visit my Etsy store (website below)!

Blessings and Peace!

Adventures in Cup Cozies - Fall 2014

I've been experimenting with some applique motifs for cup cozies for my upcoming classes at Craft Mart.  For ever motif I create at least two variations, at least one for knit and at least one for crochet... depending on how much I like the subtle differences there may be more than a few for either.  Look at the pumpkins in the first picture for an example, they're all crochet.  In fact, the only knit cup cozy currently pictured is the last pumpkin, at the very bottom (Fall Cup Cozy 6).  As for the majority of the motifs, I have found quite a selection from Ravelry.com (to which I will give credit for the patterns as I share them).  Motifs are certainly fun to work!

Here in Western Washington, the Seahawks football team is the big team that everyone is talking about!  Especially since they on the Super Bowl last year.  So, here are a few products I have made for those die-hard fans!  Yes, I know, the shade of green is very important!

Adventures in Bookkmarks

Recently I had an opportunity to consign some items at a local bookstore.  Since then there has been much interest in the bookmarks, mostly from the ladies at church.  In response to this interest, I made a series of bookmarks and gave them as gifts.  All of the photos are on my Facebook page, so check them out!

Some of these bookmarks are my own design and some of them I made from a pattern book.

Adventures in Lace and a Purse!

As I am starting to branch out into lace, I realize I'm taking this one step at a time.  This product is the Diamonds and Eyelets Purse.  It's a cute over-the-shoulder, bag-style purse with a single button on the front for secure closure.  It is also lined with black felt material on the inside so even pens and pencils stand no chance of escape!  Simple and elegant, it's a must-have accessory for anyone on the go!

Branching out into lace has proven to be fun and slightly challenging.  Even so, I am beginning to see the patterns in my work (reading my work) and I look forward to incorporating similar designs into future products!

Adventures in Teaching (OH MY!)

Through a series of events I have been persuaded to teach knitting and crocheting classes at our local Craft Mart store.  It actually started because a new friend noticed that another store in another city was looking for crochet instructors.  So, as it stands, I have four classes lined up at the end of this month, and even if everyone is out of town for them (which I know they won't be), I am grateful for the opportunity!  My first class (last month) went very well!

The featured products for the classes are designed for intermediate to advanced students and are pictured below.  I also have beginner-level patterns available (and will teach the students how to read the patterns).  A variety of colors and patterns are available depending on skill level.

"Tall" and "wide" Soap-On-A-Rope Soap Socks.

"Double Stitch" Cotton Cloth in variegated (top) and two solid colors (bottom).

Adventures in Bookmarks #2

So the first set of bookmarks is at Witt's End Bookstore and I have the second set of bookmarks ready to go!  I have a consignment agreement with them, so when I go to pick up the first set of bookmarks and leave this second set of bookmarks I will put what hasn't sold (if any) on my table at future events.  What do you think about that?

We have the Beautiful Butterfly bookmarks in the top picture.  These sit with the crocheted tops above and the ribbons are caught in the pages leaving an adorable "butterfly" to save your place.  Below are the Loving Hearts bookmarks (5 on left) and the Victorian Lace bookmarks (2 on right), each made with 12 inches of ribbon woven through the eyelets in the middle.

Many of the bookmark patterns are from the Leisure Arts *Thread Bookmarks* by Wanda Stevens.  This book can be found wherever Leisure Arts instruction books are sold.

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Blessings!

Adventures in Soap-On-A-Rope Take 3

Of my new favorite products, the Soap-On-A-Rope is my current focus.  This has been one of my biggest sellers at vendor events, but not just as Soap-On-A-Rope Soap Socks!  Several people have bought one because it fit their phone or iPod as a carry case!  I make these as Soap Socks and I also make cell phone and other electronic purses.

A "tall" version.

Adventures in Bookmarks #1

Since living in a new place after moving with the ship, I have stumbled across a few good resources.  One of which is a book store (Witt's End Bookstore in Marysville, WA) where they not only sell, resell, and buy books but they also do consignment.  While there are many products available from other crafty people, I have been making bookmarks for consignment with them.  Here is the first set.

Adventures in Designed and Lined Beanies

I figured I would share this crochet combo.  This is two different versions of the same hat.  Inside of each is lined with a felt material which is hand sewn into the hat.  I am thinking about playing with other designs like this and even making other lined products including hats, purses, and mittens (or fingerless mitts).

Stay tuned for more great products!

Adventures in Pet Hats

One suggestion from people is to start making pet hats.  Here are two examples.  The first one I made (modeled) was made at a special request and the second one (orange) was an order that came from a friend of the person who bought the first pet hat.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Adventures in Team Spirit

A while back I posted School Pride and Team Spirit stuff.  Now I'm giving an update!  Since I live in the Pacific North West (PNW), the Seahawks football team is the one team I hear the most about.  EVERYONE love the Seahawks... ok, maybe with the few exceptions from the transplants, but I'm sure the Seahawks fans will forgive them.

I really like these two sets, the Two-Tone and Bumblebee, and can make them in pretty much any color.  I have made these in blue and green (Seahawks), some in blue and gold (Bremerton HS, Washington), a set in purple and gold (Permian HS, Texas), and even a set for my sister in purples.  Additionally, I also make headbands and accessories in pretty much any color.  I really enjoy making practical things for people to use.
