Adventures in Angel Hair Fingerless Mitts

As I said last time, I've been on an Angel Hair yarn kick.  These two pairs of fingerless mitts came by inspiration.  First (in green, blue, white, and black) I made a pair mitts for someone with larger hands.  Even though I tried to make it slightly larger, I managed a pair of adult extra-large fingerless mitts.  I'll have to remember thicker yarn doesn't need that many more stitches for a larger size.  They're still super soft, though!  Second, I was inspired by the upcoming Valentine's Day and so used red with black for a break in the color.  I thought about using an applique, but decided I prefer a single stripe with edging.  I am very pleased with how these came out.

Adventures in Angel Hair Hats

I've been on an Angel Hair yarn kick recently.  Angel Hair yarn is super soft!  I especially like making fingerless mitts with it, but this time was hats.  The adult size hat (bottom two pictures) would go well with the fingerless mitts from the last post.  For a kiddo, though, the Kid's Chevron Hat (top two pictures) would be perfect!

Adventures in Fingerless Mitts

In an effort to add more colorful things to my repertoire, I pulled these lovely fingerless mitts together.  I used Angel Hair yarn in each pink and green to create a cozy, soft, colorful, and inviting feel.  On top of that, this project was a "road-trip" project.  This is one project I really enjoy making on road trips because of how easy it is to pull them together and how little space it takes.

New Patterns for Cotton Cloths - Jan 2014

I have been on a cotton cloths kick since the beginning of the month.  Here are two new patterns I conjured up based off of previous patterns.  The "Post and Cables" pattern uses the back post double crochet (BPDC) and basic cable motif to create a unique linear pattern with a twist in the middle.  On the other hand, the "Building Blocks" pattern utilizes both front and back post double crochet (FPDC, BPDC) alternately to create a sturdy, ribbed feel.  Since the "Building Blocks" pattern alternates like it does, there really isn't a front or back to the cloth.

Adventures in Headbands - January 2014

I started this in December (2013) but was unable to finish it because I did not have enough materials.  Once we adjusted to the new place and found my yarns and buttons I finished it up!  The little buttons on the front are hearts, and this headband is closed with a button on the back, definitely a step out of the normal box for what I have done.

Adventures in Cotton Cloths - January 2014

As my first projects of 2014 I can't help but show them off!  The Grannie Square Cotton Cloth is a sample available for special order.  Also, the "Double Stitch" Cotton Cloths are among my favorite to make, a definite go-to pattern for a quick project!  I especially enjoy making these in sets since the different colors go so well with various kitchen and bathroom decorations.

Be sure to stay tuned for the next two cotton cloths because they are new patterns to my repertoire!  I can't wait to share them with you!

Adventures in Color (Slouchy Beanie) - December 2013

Yet another special order, for some reason, the slouchy beanie is very popular!  I cannot complain, though, since it is an easy pattern to remember.  Normally this pattern is worked in a solid color, but it has been worked in two colors (School Pride Bumblebee Set "His and Hers").  This time it is worked up in a multi-colored yarn.  If only I could have found Mani before I sent this one to its new owners.

Adventures in Socks - December 2013

I was finally able to finish the pair of socks I started a year and a half ago, but they turned out too small.  So I used the same pattern, made some adjustments, and made another pair.  Second time around was a success!

Adventures in Doodles - November 2013

Having some yarn available but not a direction or pattern I decided to doodle.  I started with a basic circle and it turned out as a beret.  The next inspiration was the little red bow (not detachable).  Thanks to my mom, this little gem came out beautifully!

Adventures in "His and Hers" - Summer 2013

As a special order I made up a School Pride Bumblebee "His and Hers" set.  His set is the Stripes and Cables cap (minus the pom pom), scarf, and a pair of fingerless mitts all in black borders.  Her set is a slouchy beanie, scarf, and fingerless mitts all in red borders with a lined bag.

I am thankful for the opportunity to make such custom gifts!

Hats and Accessories - March 2013

Here's Mani modeling another set of hats and accessories.  A black hat with a grey flower and a grey hat with a black flower!  One thing I like about these sets is they are interchangeable because the flowers are detachable.  Also, the flowers can be used in a variety of ways: on the hat, in the hair, through a shawl, or on another accessory!

Been A While...

It's been a while since my las blog, so I figured I'd fill everyone in on what I've been doing in the last year.

The last blog was in March of last year (almost a whole year ago!) and that was right before my dad passed away.  I spent my spring packing things away and my summer with my mom.  Below are pictures of the final products we accomplished.  Since Dad isn't around to patch things anymore, my mom, my brother and I figured it would be good to replace the back porch and do some major cleaning up in the back yard.  Enjoy!
