Purple Pot Holders - March 2012

I asked, and so I received.  In an attempt to find a product that would sell in my business I asked my facebook fans for feedback.  One lady suggested purple pot holders... so I made 5.  Here they are!

The top two are sold, bought by the lady who suggested them.  To check for availability on these and other products and services check out my facebook page for Tabi's Creating Adventures (copy and paste: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tabis-Creating-Adventures/309408239117799) or e-mail me at tabiscreatingadventures@gmail.com.

Knit Fingerless Mitts - March 2012

In this exciting adventure, I managed to make one pair of knit fingerless mitts for a gift and one for sale!  Oddly enough, the second set would not have happened without a simple mistake.  I made the first two mitts in two different sizes.  How?  There are about 10 stitches difference between the fingers on the first pair and the second pair.  That translates to about an inch difference around the fingers.  I tried them on and it just didn't work.  So, I did the best thing I knew to do and that is make TWO pair! Yes! Problem solved.  =-)

Above is the first pair of knit fingerless mitts and below is the smaller second pair.

I hope this inspired someone to solve a problem today!

Slouchy Beret in dark blue - March 2012

This little number came about because someone wanted to start a project and, after a bit of conversation, decided to make this pattern.  This is the second time I've made this pattern up, the first time was in purple for my sister and I made a matching scarf.  Slouchy Beret is from In All Caps: 6 Crochet Designs by The Crochet Dude, Drew Emborsky (Leisure Arts printing company).

Adventures in Soakers! March 2012

This particular project was inspired by a cloth-diapering friend of mine.  She said something about wanting a woolen diaper soaker but could find any anywhere!  So, while I was at our local yarn shop I happened to run across a kit for diaper soakers.  It came with 4 oz of recommended super-wash wool in natural color, elastic banding, and an easy knit pattern.  I must thank Appalachian Baby Design for their cute kit (reference and contact at bottom).  Their pattern includes 4 sizes and I used the largest size.

The top picture is the finished soaker before the first wash, which "felts" the soaker.  It was about 9" across and 9 1/2" top to bottom, laid flat, before the wash.  The bottom two pictures are the after wash pictures.  It shrank up almost 2 full inches top to bottom and stayed the same across in the felting process.    The bottom picture is the final finished product with bow and everything!  It amazes me how much one string of elastic band can make such a huge difference!

I hope everyone enjoyed this little side-track!

Little Fingerless Mitts - Feb 2012

To continue in this fingerless mitts fandango, I decided to try my hand at a smaller size.  These two pair are the first results!  I like the mix mash of colors in the top pair.  The bottom pair is made from one skein.  These are perfect for children or anyone with smaller hands.

As a note, the brown tags are my current tagging and labeling system.  I look forward to changing the tags in the future.  For now, this is a good start.

Obviously the middle of the tags is specific to the item tagged, but these tags read as follows:

Cabled Jam Cap - Feb 2012

Yet another hat made out of the book of crocheted hats (by The Crochet Dude) my sister bought me when she wanted me to make her a hat.  I think this one came out completely adorable!  The pattern recommends a dark colored yarn, but I am lovin' the bright green and white!  Although, I will probably update this post with a better picture of this hat.  I don't think the 3 I managed to take really do the hat justice.  It is SUPER CUTE and deserves a head (or mannequin) to show it's true shape!

I hope you enjoyed this little endeavor!  Blessings and Peace!

Fingerless Mitts Fandango! - Feb 2012

I had the idea to make some fingerless mitts and started with one pair... then bought several skeins of yarn to make several more pair... and now I'm hoping I'll be making my way back to socks again soon!  The best part: it only takes about 2 hours to make a pair of short fingerless gloves with the Angel Hair brand yarn I found!  All of these are crocheted, but I do have plans for a pair or so of knitted fingerless mitts in the works.  I'm excited!

Above: linked double crochet (ldc) short fingerless mitts in green variegated 100% cotton yarn.  This pair was harder on the hands to make because it is a cotton yarn.  I never realized how tiring it is to work with a yarn with so little give!  If you or some one you know is a beginning knitter or crocheter, start with anything but cotton!  I enjoy the way these came out though, very nice pattern.

Below: The bottom 5 pictures are all short fingerless mitts made with Angel Hair Yarn (or Angel Hair Stripes) and size I hook with all single crochets (sc).  Many are made with more than one color/pattern of the yarn.  These have been a BLAST to make!  I'm still working on the pattern, so if you're interested, let me know!  (tabiscreatingadventures@gmail.com)

God Bless!

Crocheted Fingerless Mitts - Feb 2012

Fingerless mitts became an interest of mine after I bought my first pair of fingerless mitts (knit) from a charity that came to our church.  So I finally decided to make a pair.  The second project to  use up some purple yarn.  These are a small to medium size, a little snug on my hands but still comfortable.

The best part about this project is that I designed them.  There is no pattern for this particular pair of fingerless mitts because I haven't written it yet.  This is encouraging to me because I feel God has blessed me with a creative ability and this helps to confirm it.

Basketweave Stocking Cap - Feb 2012

I decided I wanted to use up some of my purple and variegated yarn, so I went with this little project for starters.  I like this style of hat because it has a double layer brim for extra warm over the ears (it folds up from the bottom) and it uses a linked double crochet so it has tall rows but is still doesn't let heat escape like regular double crochets.

In the picture below you can see the color differences between the two variegated yarns I used.  I actually like the difference between the side and the dome.

This is the same pattern I used for the post "A Random little Hat. - Jan 2012" only in different colors.

2012 - The Year of the Sock! February 2012

All right!  My second pair of socks completed!  I'm excited!  I found the pattern for these socks in a book at our local yarn shop: Crocheted Socks!: 16 Fun-to-Stitch Patterns by Janet Rehfeldt and Mary Jane Wood.  I used On Line brand super sock yarn in "comic-color" and it took a little more than one skein to finish this pair.  I'm sure I could have made them both with one skein if I had used a smaller pattern option.  The good news is I have almost two full skeins of this color left!

I hope you enjoyed the new project!  Blessings and Peace!
