Mary Jane Socks - Sept 2012

I decided it would be a good idea to work on Christmas items.  Now, I'm not telling who this is going to, but I'm sure the recipient won't be surprised when she receives it!

The base (dark purple) is knit and the trim (red) is crocheted with a pink penguin button for embellishment.  I used Bernat Handicrafter yarn in black currant (base) and watermelon (red).  Also, I found the pattern in one of the books I bought from the local yarn shop.  WIN!

I hope you enjoyed this little post!

Blessings and Peace,

Miscellaneous Middles

Some things I found not too long ago are these two rugs and a knit wallet prototype.  The rugs were made several years ago and the knit wallet was made in early this year.  I realized I have not put up a blog post with these items, so here it is!  I hope you enjoy!

This oval rug was an attempt at doing something different.  I never had a oval or round rug before, so I figured I would try.  I think it turned out well.  We are using it in our hallway between the living room and the laundry room.  I think I could make a more colorful one with the yarn I have now.  Maybe I could even make one of actual rug yarn!

As with most of my first attempts, this rectangular rug isn't quite rectangular.  It's more like a trapezoid. Part of what leads to these irregularities is the different sizes of yarns I used in the same project.  In this one, I used a thicker yarn for the darkest section and a progressively thinner yarn for each the red and  yellow sections.  Knowing the effect of the yarn size I can now make a regular rectangle (as opposed to a trapezoid) with multiple yarns of the same size.  It's as simple as comparing wraps per inch for each yarn used.  I currently use this rug as a cute accessory next to the bed in the spare bedroom.

This knit wallet is also a prototype for a small purse.  I am still waiting for some feedback on the knit pattern from a couple of people before I try to make changes to the pattern itself.  I use this to keep all my account registers together.  It's convenient to have my checkbook and all my registers in the same place at the same time in case I need to visit a banker and fix or inquire about something with one of my accounts.  Plus, the colors are pretty, too.

School Pride... Wait... Not? - Sept 2012

I love my sister and all her requests!  I was actually wanting to see the School Pride Warmth Set in some different colors myself when my sister asked me to make her another winter set.  This time she specifically requested "that one hat you use for the School Pride Stuff... with the stripes" and the scarf and fingerless mitts to match.  I couldn't deny her... especially since I had the yarn colors she wanted and was ready to do something like this anyway.  So, here it is!!

I especially like that my sister is willing to model for me.

Love ya, Sis!!

A New Scarf - Sept 2012

Here is one of my favored experiment-type products!  This started out as an attempt at moving outside my comfort zone.  I normally have very basic rules and don't venture out into other techniques or randomness, so here I stepped out to see what would happen (even baby steps count).  The base is a "Grannie stitch" scarf 7.5 inches wide and 60 inches long.  The red, white, light blue, and dark blue "ribbons" are chains of yarn I wove throughout the "Grannie stitch" holes in random order.  Then, I attached the fringe on the end.  I think it turned out pretty well.

Mani the Mannequin was my first model.

Then I had my sister model it because I am so excited about how well it turned out...

... then she wrapped it around MY neck, stole my camera, and snuck a couple shots in... this was the better one.

I hope this was interesting to you!

Blessings and Peace!

Mani the Business Parter - August 2012

So I have been looking for a good model for my hats and caps.  While my sister serves as my model for some things, she simply does not want to be in *every* picture!  So... my friend, who recently finished cosmetology school with Jean Juarez Academy, agreed to give me one of her mannequin heads she used in school.  Without further adieu, meet Mani, my new business partner!

Cotton Cloth Set of 4 - August 2012

I have pretty well been on a roll with this particular pattern in the cotton cloths.  Since The Soap Crate in Kingston has agreed to work with me for the cotton cloths, they have been on the forefront of my workings.

This particular set of cotton cloths will go to the MOPS (Mothers Of PreSchoolers) silent auction benefit here in Kitsap County.  In exchange for items to auction, MOPS will provide exposure for the donating businesses.

Cotton Cloths - August 2012

Fun days!  My hands are about dried out from all the cotton yarn I've been working with!  I'm loving it, though!  I'm also really glad I joined the social networking groups!  They've been super helpful!

In the first picture below is the first set of cotton cloths I made, which sparked an interest in other cotton cloths!  Each of the other pictures are made with yarn from the same brand and type of yarn as the first set, but in different colors.  I used the Bernat brand yarn in the Cottontots colors.  This has been fun, and I'm not finished yet!  The cool thing is that the owner of The Soap Crate in Kingston, WA has agreed to consign the seven cloths pictured individually and is looking forward to more of what I make!  YAY!

Cotton Cloth set of 4 in Country Red and Taupe.

Cotton Dish Cloths Set #1 - August 2012

Finally!!!  I finished the set of cotton dish cloths I started months ago!  Country Red and Taupe of the Bernat cotton yarns are the colors I chose for this set.  I think they turned out great!

On top of that, I posed this picture on Facebook last night and this morning I checked my e-mail to find someone interested in purchasing cloths something like this for her store in Kingston, WA!  She is looking for wash cloths to sell with her soaps so she is offering to purchase cloths from my business in order to fill her baskets and sets.  What a great opportunity!  I am excited for the coming weeks, to see what else God has in store for Tabi's Creating Adventures!

I hope you enjoyed this post!

God Bless!

"Crazy" Scarf and Accessories - August 2012

I was asked if I could make a "crazy" scarf to go along with some jewelry another lady makes.  This is my first attempt at making said "crazy" scarf.  I will create another post if she makes some jewelry that goes with this scarf.  This opportunity to work with this lady and have a different exposure in the business world is exciting!

The fingerless mitts were inspired by the yarn and scarf.  I don't know what I am going to do now that I have run out of that particular yarn!  It was at a second-hand store in town and it didn't have a label on it so I don't know what the brand is.

On another note, I love my sister!  I appreciate her willingness to model the scarf so I can show people what it really looks like!  Thanks, Sis!

Blessings and Peace!
